Yamaha Unveils New 20’ Sport Boat Platform for 2027
A new 20-foot lineup pairs Yamaha Marine power with single-engine DRiVE® control, wake-ready versatility, and a garage-friendly footprint
KENNESAW, Ga. — August 23, 2026 — Yamaha WaterCraft today introduced the 205XD, 205SD, AR205, and AR200 — four all-new 20-foot sport boats that pair Yamaha marine power with the brand's first single-engine DRiVE® system. The lineup replaces Yamaha's long-running 19-foot series.
The 205 and 200 models seat nine, handle open water, and still fit a residential garage. They tow, launch, and store like a smaller boat while delivering the comfort and capability of a larger one.
"The all-new 20' models expand our lineup wider and further up-market, accelerate the premium shift our customers are already making, and open new ground in wake performance with the 205XD — all while staying true to the compact, manageable platform Yamaha owners love," said Yamaha Boats product manager Joel Fields. "That's the opportunity the new 20' boats unlock for our dealers and for the next generation of Yamaha boaters."
A New Hull and a New Look
The new platform measures 20' LOA with an 8'6" beam, a higher bow sheer, and a deeper cockpit than the outgoing 19' models. The added length, wider beam, and greater cockpit depth give it more room, steadier footing at rest, and more confidence in rough water, while the hull keeps the agile handling and quick response expected from jet propulsion.
Inside, the cabin debuts new upholstery and a revised helm layout. A new portside convertible backrest faces forward for cruising and rearward for watersports.
A molded-in cooler and an all-new tower come standard on all four models, and the 205XD adds wake-series accents that set it apart.
The Yamaha Boats Advantage
Every 20-foot model is built on the Yamaha Boats technology stack:
- Patented Jet Drive System: Yamaha's internal propulsion sets the industry standard.
- With no exposed lower unit or propeller, the boats handle nimbly, accelerate instantly, and run a shallow draft for better swimmer safety and confident sandbar and beach operation. Maintenance stays simple, with no water pump or fluids to service.
- Patented Clean-Out Port: Exclusive to Yamaha Boats, this patented port sits above the waterline at the stern, where it's easy to reach. It clears debris from the jet pump to prevent damage and keep the system running smoothly.
- Connext® Helm Control System: Connext is the hub for entertainment, DRiVE® control, GPS mapping, and live boat-system data underway.
- Yamaha Articulating Keel: This patented system extends the keel and moves in concert with the jet pump nozzles for directional stability. Steering response is immediate, the boat tracks straight at any speed, and the hull holds its line through chop.
Yamaha Marine Power and Single-Engine DRiVE® Control
The 205XD, 205SD, and AR205 run the supercharged Yamaha 1.8-liter Super Vortex High Output (SVHO) marine engine; the AR200 runs the normally-aspirated Yamaha 1.9-liter High Output (HO) marine engine. All four are single-engine.
The 1.9L HO delivers smooth acceleration, strong low-end torque, and the reliability suited to everyday recreation. The 1.8L SVHO adds stronger acceleration, more towing capability, and a harder pull through the midrange for better wake and surf performance.
On the 205XD and 205SD, the single-engine DRiVE® system introduces a new remocon design, throttle-by-wire, and Drive Control paddle shifters. It refines low-speed handling and brings dual-engine-style maneuverability at the dock and in tight slips, giving newer boaters more docking confidence.
Wake-Ready Performance
The 205XD is built for wake and surf. Integrated ballast, an all-new manual folding wake scoop, and port-and-starboard ballast bags shape a clean surf wave with a defined face, a long pocket for rope-free riding, strong push off the transom, and little whitewash. A subwoofer raises the output of its Hertz marine audio system for wake and surf use.
It puts that watersports capability in a 20-foot boat that fits a garage and tows behind a midsize SUV, with no dedicated tow vehicle required.
A Connected Cockpit
The cockpit centers on the portside convertible backrest, the molded-in cooler, a 7-inch Connext display, and the standard tower. Hertz marine audio is standard on all 205 models.
The 205XD comes pre-wired for the Siren 3 device, a plug-and-play path to Yamaha's Connected Boat features: geo-fencing, real-time tracking, battery-voltage monitoring, RPM and hours-by-RPM logging, and engine on/off and temperature alerts — all delivered to the owner's phone through the Siren Connected Boat App.
Built for the Next Generation of Yamaha Boaters
The 20-foot platform brings larger-boat comfort, technology, and capability into a compact, manageable size. It suits first-time buyers, watersports families, current jet boat owners ready to step up, and anyone after garage-friendly versatility without giving up features.
